This grant will help to fund Engage! Connecting Community with Active Care for Spinal Cord Injuries, a program that will increase access to rehabilitative care, education and wrap-around services offered to spinal cord injury clients who come from under-represented and socio-economically challenged backgrounds. Challenge Center will collaborate with HeadNorth Foundation, Grossmont Hospital and local colleges and university service learning programs to provide an experiential opportunity for college students to gain awareness of the challenges faced by these clients. One aspect of the program involves a community outreach effort with a local community college to bring underserved clients, specifically a portion of whom may be Spanish-speaking only, to the Center for rehabilitation services. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
