Meet our athletes participating in this year's Marine Corps, Bank of America Chicago, and ING New York City marathons.
This will be my third marathon, and my first Chicago marathon. It's Team Reeve's first time in Chicago as well, and I look forward to the beginning of a new tradition in partnership with them! I'm very excited to be running with a purpose besides just racing for a personal best. My older brother, Alex, was in a car accident his senior year of high school (17), my freshman year (14). He was paralyzed from his chest down. The doctors said he was lucky to be alive and that he would be walking within 10 years because of the progress being made with stem cells.
That was almost nine years ago. If it weren't for Alex I wouldn't be the person I am today. His strength, humor, determination and countless other amazing attributes give me hope day after day. Without his persistent encouragement I would've never started running. He’s taught me so many invaluable things in life, among them the importance of resiliency. I run so he can walk, and hope that one day he'll be at the starting line with me – standing, stretching and waiting for the gun.
