I am running to honor Susan Howley. Susan is executive-vice president and director of research for the Reeve Foundation. She is also my mother-in-law. When I first met Susan, I was a college student and I was enthralled by her reports of the progress being made in spinal cord injury research. As I grew to know Susan, I was inspired by her dedication to the cause and her ability to affect change.

Last year, I had the opportunity to attend a dinner honoring her 25 years at Reeve Foundation. I was not prepared for the overwhelming outpouring of gratitude she received, not only from the scientists she works with on a regular basis, but from real folks suffering from spinal cord injury. I am proud to be running 26.2 miles in honor of Susan's 26 years of service.
