Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2008: Actively Achieving

This grant will help to fund the Ability Driven Swim Program, which includes four 8-week recreational swimming sessions as pool therapy, a competition swim team that will travel regionally, a “home meet” in St. Louis that will bring regional competition to the area (St. Louis, May 2009), national competition for those who qualify (National Junior Disability Championship, July 2009), and an international opportunity to represent Team USA (International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Games in Switzerland, July 2009). In total, the Ability Swim Program will improve the quality of life for approximately 75 athletes. Grant funds will support travel costs for regional and national competitions, team uniforms for 15 athletes, and pool facility rental over 8 months. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
