Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2008: Actively Achieving

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Medical Staff Corporation
San Jose, CA

This grant will support a project that will make a seated Tai Chi program available to individuals with spinal cord injury who cannot participate in a standing Tai Chi program, in the hope of improving quality of life, pain fatigue, and mood. The project will produce a seated Tai Chi video that can be taken home by each participant as he/she practices seated Tai Chi at home in an effort to increase the effectiveness of the Tai Chi class. The video of the individuals with spinal cord injury practicing Tai Chi can also be made available to consumers and health care providers in the community. Grant funds will support programmatic equipment, consultant costs and stipends for the clients participating in the video taping. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
