Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2008: Actively Achieving
Scottsdale Unified School
This grant will help to fund “Horsin’ Around,” a project that will provide transportation for students with disabilities to and from an approved therapeutic riding facility. Therapeutic horseback riding instruction will provide riding exercises such as leaning forward to pet the horse’s neck, leaning backwards to pat the horse, and twisting left and right in the saddle. The expected impact on the students will be significant as the rhythmic movement of the horse stimulates nerves while impacting student mobility and emotional well-being. Students also enjoy a renewed independence and mobility while riding on the back of a horse in an outdoor environment. Grant funds will help to underwrite the direct costs for the therapeutic riding program. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
