California Pacific Medical Center Foundation
San Francisco, CA
$17,213

This grant will help to support the production of a documentary film entitled “Making Decisions about Ventilatory Support in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis,” which will be used as a tool by health care professionals when treating patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The film will be produced by the Forbes Norris MDS/ALS Research Center at California Pacific Medical Center and focus particularly on the decision-making process surrounding ventilatory support in addition to serving as an accessible tool to bring both medical specialists and ALS patients together to share medical facts and personal experiences. The film will be distributed at no cost to the Center’s ALS patients so that they may learn through open discussions with other ALS patients, family members and health can providers regarding ventilatory support options. This is a challenge grant, and is contingent upon the organization first raising $17,213, which is half of the project’s total cost. Grant funds will support programmatic costs. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
