Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2008: Caring and Coping
This grant will help to fund the Liam’s Room Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which will create a dedicated inpatient room with the décor and comforts of home to provide pediatric palliative care for children who are struggling with a chronic condition and their families. Staff that will be treating the families using Liam’s Room, which will be located at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, will be educated on the implementation of pediatric palliative acre. A resource guide will be created and provided to families detailing programs and specialists to assist them in navigating their children’s care. Grant funds will help to underwrite equipment for Liam’s Room, including a HARD pediatric crib (compliant with medical standards), PATRICIAN family sleep sofa, PATRICIAN patient hospital wheelchair, BRANDRUD rocking chair (compliant with medical standards), pillows and bolsters, and patient wardrobe and armoire. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
