Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Actively Achieving

This grant will help to support the Chicago State University Cougar Sports Academy, which will bring African American elementary school children who have severe, permanent disabilities but are ineligible to participate in Special Olympics, to the campus to involve them in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, handcycling, bocce, indoor rowing, wheelchair softball, wheelchair football, and power soccer. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of three racing wheelchairs. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
