Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Actively Achieving
Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center
This grant will help to fund the acquisition of an aquatic treadmill for aerobic exercise at the community's only full-size, indoor, fully accessible warm-water pool providing aquatic therapy for individuals with disabilities. During pool therapy, children and adults with mobility issues can learn and practice walking movements, range of motion, and balance exercises that they cannot yet achieve in the therapy gym. The addition of an aquatic treadmill to the therapeutic pool will allow many individuals to add aerobic exercise to their workouts and the health benefits will be significant, allowing individuals to greatly improve their cardiovascular health and overall fitness. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of the aquatic treadmill. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
