Las Floristas Wheelchairs Sports program at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehab Center

Kostopulos Dream Foundation
Salt Lake City, UT

This grant will help to support the Las Floristas Wheelchairs Sports program at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, which provides 50 inpatients and outpatients with competitive athletic opportunities. Las Floristas is the only competitive wheelchair sports program in California that caters to youth and is completely free-of-charge to participants, who are 21 years of age or younger, 75% male, 40% Latino, 20% African-American and are all wheelchair-users from a variety of disabling conditions caused by accidents, gunshot violence, disease or condition. This program aspires to assist each participant in the development of lifetime physical fitness behaviors, which improve the overall quality of life and increase health and longevity. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of five children’s wheelchairs. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
