Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Actively Achieving
The Children’s Center
This grant will help to support Speeding Up Recovery through The GameCycle: Enhancing Exercise with Cognitive and Neuromuscular Benefits, which will enable the Center to provide an upper body exercise system that combines arm cranking with the challenge and excitement of playing video games. GameCycle’s interactive gaming environment facilitates compliance to exercise regimens and provides cognitive and neuromuscular benefits for patients with neurological deficits. Because of the videogame component of the GameCycle, it will be especially attractive to The Children’s Center’s pediatric and youth rehab patients as well as the Center’s outpatients. Grant funds will help underwrite the half the cost of one GameCycle Unit, developed and made by Three Rivers Holdings, LLC in Mesa, Arizona. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
