Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Actively Achieving
The Foundation for Service Dog Support, Inc.
This grant will help to support the Puppy Raising Partnership Program, the first of its kind in Arizona, which teaches high school students how to raise puppies to become service dogs. Once the dogs are fully trained, they are matched with community servants who have become wounded and require this level of assistance, with preference to military, police, fire and EMS personnel. The program links the provision of quality youth education to the direct provision of services to members of the community. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses; specifically equipment and travel for field trips to teach the dogs to work in public places and participate in public demonstrations. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
