Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Actively Achieving
Victory Gardens Theatre
This grant will help to support the Victory Gardens Theater Access Project, a community outreach effort designed to involve people with disabilities in all aspects of theater, both onstage and off. This program was created to serve the needs, potentials and rights of individuals with disabilities and to offer the arts as a place for inclusion, and consists of three major streams of programming: assistive services for theater patrons; artist development workshops; and playwright development. The overarching goal of The Access Project is to create barrier-free theater that enables artists with disabilities to further their careers and that offers audiences with and without disabilities meaningful and accessible theater experiences. The grant funds will help to support programmatic expenses, including the production of Crip Slam Sundays; Artist Development Workshop; assistive services for Mainstage Production (word-for-word captioning, audio description and Braille programs, touch tours, and signed performances); and marketing support. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
