This grant will help to underwrite the purchase of an RT-300 Motorized Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Cycle Ergometer for use by inpatients and outpatients with neurological disorders and who have reduced sensation and strength in their legs. FES is a rehabilitation technique in which electrical current stimulates nerves to evoke muscle contractions. This active therapy program engages the patient’s muscles, allowing the patient to participate in physical, aerobic activity that is crucial to strengthen muscles, improve mobility, maximize recover and enhance their quality of life. Grant funds will help to underwrite one-half the cost of the equipment. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
