Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Actively Achieving

YMCA of Greater Kansas City
Kansas City, MO

This grant will help to support YMCA Challenger Athletics, a program that provides adaptive fitness and sports programs for children, ages 5 through 18, living with a physical or developmental disability. The Challenger Athletics program currently includes tennis (at 3 sites), fitness (at 10 sites), bowling (at 3 sites), baseball (at 3 sites), soccer (at 3 sites), basketball (at 3 sites), flag football (at 3 sites), art (at 3 sites), and swimming (at 7 sites) throughout metropolitan Kansas City. Grant funds will help to support the costs to provide accessible transportation to program sites for children that use wheelchairs or other assistive devices. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
