Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Bridging Barriers

Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One
Gig Harbor, WA

This grant will help to support the Wheelchair Loaner Program, part of the GHFMO medical equipment program designed to assist citizens within the community with a no-cost wheelchair loaned for an indeterminate time period. Whether the loaned equipment is a bridge to assist citizens needing a wheelchair until financing is arranged or a second chair needed for travel or any other reason, the purpose is to respond to immediate needs for medical devices to improve quality of life. Grant funds will help to underwrite programmatic expenses, including the purchase of light to heavy-duty wheelchairs, wheelchair servicing and replacement parts. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
