Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2009: Coping and Caring
Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital
This grant will help to fund Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ (CNB), an injury prevention program to enable individuals to make safe and responsible choices regarding alcohol and driving. Each year, Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital treats dozens of young people following catastrophic car crashes that result in multiple trauma, brain injury and spinal cord injury. CNB helps to empower teenagers to avoid drinking and driving, in the face of per pressure and adolescent invincibility. The program is particularly effective and unique because it brings crash victims—the majority of whom were injured in alcohol-related crashes, and the changes that resulted from their severe life-altering conditions such as brain and spinal cord injuries are clearly evident—to speak to students in person in a school or university setting. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338).
