Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2009: Bridging Barriers
Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition
This Quality of Life grant will support services to assist people in Colorado with disabilities to obtain necessary medical equipment and other crucial issues directly related to their disability. Many clients live with paralysis as a result of traumatic injury, stroke, spina bifida, diseases such as MS, ALS, OPCA, polio. A new program has been developed specifically to outreach to wounded veterans, and the Center for the Rights of Parents with Disabilities (CRPD) program provides direct advocacy and legal services to disabled men, women and children who have been impacted by domestic violence. The majority of staff members are also people living with varying degrees of paralysis and use motorized wheelchairs, including one who also uses a ventilator and one who uses assisted oxygen. Grant funds will support programmatic costs. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000388).
