Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2009: Bridging Barriers
This Quality of Life grant will help to support a project at the Elmwood Health Center to install powered examination tables to more easily, safely and efficiently accommodate patients with paralysis, have stability and mobility impairment, elderly patients, expectant mothers, and other patients with disabilities. The examination tables can be lowered to an accessible 18 inches from the floor, allowing patients to get on the table by simply sitting down. The easy accessibility of these examination tables means the staff does not risk a mishap that could result in patient and/or staff injury. The use of the tables will eliminate excess bending and stooping by staff, and will greatly reduce the anxiety of patients during transfer. Grant funds will help to underwrite one power adjustable table for gynecological exams and one adjustable table for mammography screenings. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000388).
