Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2009: Bridging Barriers
Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan
This Quality of Life grant will help to support a project that to purchase SiCare units and Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software for its spinal cord injured patients treated by the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery. SiCare is an environmental control unit/system (ECU) that allows paralyzed patients to control their environment such as the call light, phone, TV, lights and more using their voice, so that they do not feel helpless, anxious or panic-stricken. This equipment will improve the quality of life for spinal cord injured patients and empower them with the ability to control their environment without constant assistance. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of 2 Sci Care Systems and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000388).
