Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2009: Caring and Coping

Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center
New York, NY

This Quality of Life grant will help to fund the Family Welcome Project: Nurturing Siblings and Healing Family Life for Children with Multiple Special Needs. Between 40% and 50% of the children in this specialized pediatric nursing and rehabilitation center receive less than 3 family visits per month. Parents often cite difficulties with "well" siblings as a barrier. Our Family Welcome Project will engage whole families in support groups and shared activities to address the spiritual and emotional needs of all family members, while improving the quality of life for the medically fragile child in the Center’s care. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000388).
