Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2009: Caring and Coping

Rancho Los Amigos Foundation, Inc.
Downey, CA

This Quality of Life grant will help to support the KnowBarriers project, KnowBarriers provides life coaching, peer mentoring, and substance abuse prevention to persons living with paralysis; including spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis. We also provide an opportunity for persons injured as a result of violence to "pay it forward" by participating in our violence prevention outreach program in local middle and elementary schools; targeting ask-risk youth in south central Los Angeles. Life coaching is a systematic, solution-focused and result-oriented process; where specially trained coaches assist clients to identify individual life goals, create an action plan and provide ongoing support, accountability and resources. Grant funds support programmatic costs. This grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000388).
