Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2010: Bridging Barriers

Metro Health Hospital – Assisted Breathing Center (ABC)
Wyoming, MI

This grant will help to support a project to enhance the communication and mobility of ABC patients. This has proven to be an important form of recreational therapy; restoring hope, vitality and a sense of independence to patients and improving their emotional health. The project will provide ventilator-dependent patients with opportunities to participate in therapeutic communication, using computers and the internet for activities such as sending messages to family, friends and ABC care providers, researching information regarding their community, and accessing entertainment and online shopping, and is designed to help them live life to the fullest. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of programmatic equipment. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
