Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2010: Caring and Coping

Discapacitados Abriendose Caminos
South Saint Paul, MN

This grant will help to fund Project Creando Futuros (Building Futures), which provides to Latino families who have disabled loved ones individualized one-to-one conversations and assistance to understand the disability and the services available. They receive professional assessments in a language that adjusts for their particular Spanish word use and level of literacy. This program helps to reduce isolation so often felt by families, and broadens their knowledge, self-worth, independence, and involvement in the community. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
