Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2010: Actively Achieving

Community Rowing Military/Veterans
Brighton, MA

This Quality of Life grant will help to support the Adaptive Rowing Program, which provides on-water rowing classes held two evenings per week in the spring, summer and fall, that are complemented with indoor rowing classes, weight training sessions, and competitions offered during the winter months. Two new program elements were added in the summer of 2010—the Veterans Rowing program and a Functional Electric Stimulation (F.E.S.) Rowing Program for paraplegic rowers. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of programmatic equipment; specifically, ten sets of pontoons to stabilize rowing shells. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
