Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2010: Actively Achieving

GoodLife Mobility
Palo Alto, CA

This Quality of Life grant will help to support a project to create an Electric Powered and Steerable Surfboard Engineered for Paralyzed Surfers. This project will make possible ocean adventure and recreation for individuals with paralysis by enabling them to go surfing with unprecedented independence and mobility. The technology developed will be applicable to individuals with paralysis of all types, including quadriplegic surfers with extremely limited arm and hand movement--provided they can activate a joystick. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
