Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2010: Actively Achieving

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital
Philadelphia, PA

This Quality of Life grant will help to support the Wheelchair Sports Program, which supports 57 wheelchair athletes in the sports of rugby, basketball, tennis and soccer. This growing program plans to expand its offerings to incorporate other adapted sports in the coming year, including wheelchair racing, horseback riding, and airplane flying, to name a few. Wheelchair athletes compete in tournaments both locally and nationally, as well as perform community demonstrations at local colleges and professional sporting events. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of two tennis wheelchairs for the program. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
