Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2010: Actively Achieving

Power Soccer Tampa, Inc.
Safety Harbor, FL
$2,500

This Quality of Life grant will help to support The Tampa Thunder, which is committed to bringing the sport of power wheelchair soccer to the people who are disabled in the community. Through the team’s outreach clinics, summer camp and competition, participants reach children, young adults and adults with various forms of paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy, to name a few. When the team travels to competitions, they are noticed by fellow travelers, thus becoming ambassadors for people with disabilities in the community. Power soccer shows the able-bodied community that the people with disabilities are important and valuable assets to the world. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses for the outreach clinics. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
