Quality of Life Grants: 2nd Cycle 2010: Bridging Barriers

University of Wisconsin-Eau Clair Foundation, Inc.
Eau Claire, WI

This Quality of Life grant will help to support the Enhanced Participation through Adapted Equipment for Children Living with Paralysis project. The health and social benefits of physical activity and athletic participation for children are well established. These benefits may be even more important for children with disabilities, including those with cognitive and physical disabilities who have a greater risk of being sedentary and having associated health conditions, such as obesity and reduced cardiovascular fitness. Grant funds will help underwrite the purchase of two sports wheelchairs for the program. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338).
