Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2011: Actively Achieving

Pasadena, CA

This grant will increase accessibility at Camp Paivika, a 10-acre mountain retreat that is fully accessible to children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Camp Paivika operates year-round and offers swimming, hiking, arts & crafts, performing arts, nature studies, horseback riding and many more adapted activities that encourage full participation. Summer camp is the biggest program, accommodating up to 500 people over eight camp sessions. Grant funds will help to underwrite costs for purchase and installation of a hoyer lift to enable campers with paralysis to get into and out of the pool safely. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338.)
