Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2011: Actively Achieving

Kingston Revved Up
Kingston, Ontario

This grant will help to support Onward and Upward: Enhancing and Sustaining Kingston Revved Up Services, aimed to sustain and supplement Revved Up activities with a group-based physical activity counseling program that teaches members the skills to increase their activity levels to meet the guidelines. Revved Up, an exercise program for adults with paralysis, was carefully designed to address the common barriers the participants face, including physical barriers (e.g., a lack of facilities), attitudinal barriers (e.g., negative social stigma regarding physical activities and appropriateness of exercise participation), systemic barriers (e.g., financial costs), and expertise barriers (e.g., a lack of knowledgeable health professionals to offer exercise advice). Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338.)
