Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2011: Actively Achieving

Paralyzed Veterans Of America, Omaha
Omaha, NE

This grant will help to fund the Nebraska Sled Hockey Program. Sled hockey is a sport designed to allow participants who have a physical disability to play the game of ice hockey. This program provides to individuals with mobility impairments a truly unique out-of-chair experience. Participants have the freedom of moving on the ice, and learn how to skate and play hockey so they can gain greater self-esteem and learn how to work with others on a team. Grant funds will help to underwrite the purchase of sleds and hockey sticks that will belong to the program. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338.)
