Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2011: Actively Achieving

This grant will help to support the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp 2011, held annually in July at the University of California at Santa Barbara Recreation Center. The 2011 Camp will serve an estimated 40 campers—children and youth between the ages of 5 and 19 years who use a wheelchair to participate in physical activities—by providing activities and wheelchair sports., including soccer, basketball, racquetball, tennis, handcycling, dance, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and SC.U.B.A. diving, fitness, climbing wall, and more. For some of the campers it will be their first time trying some of the activities and for many it will provide their only access to these activities. The camp is offered free of charge to all camper. Grant funds will support programmatic expenses. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338.)
