Quality of Life Grants: 1st Cycle 2011: Caring and Coping

South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association
Columbia, SC

This grant will help to sustain and expand Peers Helping Peers, a South Carolina statewide network of peer support groups for individuals with spinal cord injury, their families, supportive friends and healthcare professionals. Social media strategies will be developed for Facebook and Twitter and other web-based forums that will be utilized for program promotion, outreach, remote program participation, and communications including blogs, webinars, video casts, RSS feeds, pod casts and text messaging. Individuals with spinal cord injuries will be connected to The Medical University of SC, (MUSC), College of Nursing's Peer Navigator Initiative to help improve timely access to healthcare services, eliminate barriers to community-based health promotion resources and improve health after their spinal cord injury, as well as evaluating program outcomes. Grant funds will help to support programmatic expenses. This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award # 1U59DD000338.)
