Internship Program
Mission Statement:
The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.

General Information:
Required Hours: 12 - 21 hours per week
Length: a semester (fall, spring, or summer)
Unpaid internship: for class credit or a volunteer work experience
Description of Intern Opportunities:
Development
Conduct prospect and donor research
Review hard copy files and PIDI database for consistent information, create, and maintain files
Support processing gifts, donor acknowledgements and mailings
Help organize and prepare for large fundraising events
Marketing and Communications
Investigate past press clippings and assist with the Reeve Foundation photo catalogue project
Assist in updating the foundation’s website (must have knowledge of basic HTML coding or experience with a content management system)
Help the department to build the foundation’s online community through the creation and use of blogs, newsletters, podcasts, forums, videos, and social networking tools
Research
Assist in organizing, reviewing, and sending out applications from individual grant applicants during the bi-annual grant application cycles
- Work to update and organize GIFTS database for a variety of uses and projects
Resource Center/Quality of Life Grants
- Assist the information specialists with package assembly, photocopying, filing, and mailings
- Work with the Quality of Life Research Grant Program such as filing applications, checking links and contact information in the database, and assisting with mailings of checks and letters
- Look up Congressional leaders for letters to Congress
Anticipated Outcome:
- Interns will gain a full understanding of how a non-profit is organized and operates at a variety of levels to form a successful whole
- Exposure to various types of fundraising from large events to smaller functions and donor relations
- An understanding of the importance of marketing, advertising, and media coverage for a business’s growth and success
- An understanding of the grant application and decision making process for individuals grants and how this interfaces with the foundation as a whole
- Knowledge of current and potential research projects in the field
- Learning opportunity to become knowledgeable in the types of services and organization that are providing services to families and individuals living with paralysis
