Individual Research Grants
|
The Reeve Foundation Individual Grants Program was founded on the understanding that effective treatments for acute and chronic spinal cord injury will involve carefully orchestrated multi-disciplinary interventions, each tailored to the individual patient. For this reason, the Individual Grants Program, the largest and most comprehensive of the Reeve Foundation research initiatives, supports investigator-initiated research on a variety of fronts, including axon growth and guidance, remyelination, cellular replacement, rehabilitation and neuroprotection.
Every research application submitted to the Reeve Foundation is reviewed by the Foundation's Science Advisory Council, a panel of senior neuroscientists who volunteer their time and expertise to evaluate proposals based on scientific merit, relevance to the Reeve Foundation's research priorities, and promise for clinical application. This rigorous process ensures that the Reeve Foundation funds only the most meritorious science that is targeted at developing effective therapies for paralysis and dysfunctions caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders.

The next application deadline for Individual Research Grants is Dec. 15, 2010.

Information on current application cycle
At its December 15, 2009 application cycle, the Reeve Foundation received 131 research proposals requesting over $17.5 million in research funds. As usual, the proposals originate from around the globe (17 countries) and we expect to find a significant number will put forth exciting new ideas and approaches to spinal cord injury and repair. Approximately one-third of the proposals were submitted by postdoctoral fellows, the "next generation" of investigators, while approximately 50% came from seasoned scientists looking to apply their experience and expertise to spinal cord injury.
All proposals will be peer reviewed this summer by members of the Foundation's Science Advisory Council and their funding recommendations will be passed along to the Reeve Board of Directors for review and funding authorization.
