- Including the Reeve Foundation in Your Will
You can leave a legacy that will help spinal cord injured men, women, and children live better and live longer by including the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in your estate planning. Your generosity will continue beyond your life time to support research that will help people regain function and even walk again as well as support on-going quality of life programs.
When you include the Foundation in you planning,
we would like to recognize your thoughtfulness by including you in our Michael A. Hughes Society.
Much like Christopher Reeve, Mike Hughes was a true visionary and a selfless individual who understood how scientific research combined with therapy and quality of life support could totally transform the lives of people who are spinal cord injured. After Mike’s son Greg was injured, he used his professional experience as a Xerox executive to help establish what would become the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Like Christopher and Dana, he too, believed that anything is possible if you work hard and believe.
Mike passed away in 2007, but he left a legacy that will continue to change lives for years to come and you can too.
All you have to do to become a member of the Michael A. Hughes Society is to make provisions for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation in your estate plans. Here are just a few of the ways in which you can make a planned gift to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and become a member of the Michael A. Hughes Society:
- Bequests – include the Reeve Foundation in your will either with a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the residuary of your estate.
- Retirement Assets – by leaving your 401(k) or 403(b) to the Reeve Foundation, your heirs will avoid being taxed on that part of your Estate. Or you can designate the Reeve Foundation as the beneficiary on your pension plan.
- Real Estate – your home or other property can be gifted to the Reeve Foundation and you as the donor retain the right to live in the property for the remainder of your life.
- Charitable Remainder Trusts – these are similar to Charitable Gift Annuities, but you as the donor can choose your trustee(s), allowing you more control over the investments.
- Charitable Lead Trusts – these planned giving vehicles are excellent for donors who have money that they don’t need and want to pass along tax-free to their heirs. A certain amount of money, usually starting in the high six-figures, is placed in an account and the interest is given to the charity for a specified period (usually 10 years or more). At the end of the agreement, the principal goes to a designated individual, or individuals, tax-free.
