Site Accessibility

We are committed to ensuring that our site is accessible to all users. This Website has been developed using guidelines established by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (as amended). Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers to information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities and to encourage the development of new technologies to help achieve these goals. This law requires that all individuals with disabilities have access to information and data comparable to that which is available to individuals without disabilities.

eSSENTIAL Accessibility
The Reeve Foundation has partnered with eSSENTIAL Accessibility to provide you a specialized web browser at no charge. This browser features an array of keyboard and mouse replacement solutions (i.e. alternative input methods including a hands-free movement tracking system) which allow users to overcome any physical limitation and access a website. See the complete list of features.

eSSENTIAL Accessibility is available only for Windows users. See the complete list of requirememts.

Two things have to happen to take full advantage of the eSEENTIAL Accessibility browser:

  1. you have to download it and be surfing with it
  2. the site you are surfing has to be a partner. Partners will display the icon to the right. See the ever-growing partner list.

Download the browser here and try it out. We are very interested in your feedback. Please, post your comments in our Paralysis Community.

Make the most of your current browser
Your regular Internet browser has built-in features to make your surfing much easier. The accessibility settings are helpful to people with visual difficulties, hearing loss, discomfort in their hands or arms, or reasoning and cognitive issues.

Depending on your browser, you can:

  • zoom in on a Web page to magnify text, images, and controls on the page
  • change text size and font style
  • set up a style sheet to format documents to your preferences
  • choose or ignore colors used on Web pages making them easier to see by changing the text, background, link and hover colors
  • maintain operating system preferences like high contrast mode and color preferences so they work in your browser

Note: Changing text size is built into our Website. Click the [+] Text or [-] Text icons at the top of most pages. Refresh the page to get it back to normal size.

Use the Tab key
Almost anywhere on our site, pressing the Tab key will jump you from clickable link to clickable link (and the text boxes), and always in the same order. Look for a faint dotted-line surrounding the link to see where you are. When you first come to a page and hit Tab, the faint-dotted line will be in the upper left, around the link for English. When you land on a link you want, hit Return or Enter to select it.

Site map
The site map shows you every link on the site, in plain text, in an outline format. This makes it very easy to use the Tab key to naviagte to any part of the site. We have two site maps. One site map covers the Paralysis Resource Center exclusively, and one site map for the rest of ChristopherReeve.org.
