Team Reeve's first year participating in the Marine Corps Marathon was a great success! The clouds and rainy weather washed out most of Saturday, but was long gone by 7:50 a.m. Sunday morning, October 26th, for the official start of the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon.

A chilly start turned into a beautiful day in our nation's capital. Perfect weather for the over 30,000 race participants. Team coach, Mark Zenobia aided our athletes with personalized training plans, and tips as for many it was their first time tackling 26.2 miles.

Michael MurphyAmong our athletes was Michael Murphy, 23, who was paralyzed from the waist down a year and a half ago. Read more about Mike's story. "I'm not in this to win, I'm going to take my time and enjoy every minute of it." Well, Mike made remarkable time in his hand-cranked recumbent bike, and finished the marathon in 2:18:41.

Katy Oliver Katy Oliver of New Haven, CT, said she cried when she finished the race. It was Katy's first marathon and she was swept up in the emotion of it all. Her parents and boyfriend came into D.C. to cheer her on. How proud they were to see their Katy "Bean" achieve her goal. She finished in 4:41:19.

Sean Lunde Sean Lunde of Boston, MA, another Team Reeve member, ran his first marathon as well. "I want to beat Oprah's time," he said at our pre-race luncheon on Saturday. That was his goal. And he did just that. Sean finished in 4:10:02.

Elizabeth Hunnewell Elizabeth Hunnewell hadn't run a marathon in 8 years. She just recently moved to D.C. and said that the Marine Corps was just the race to get her back in the marathon spirit.

The crowds were grand, the sites spectacular, and we are already planning for next year. Interested in running in the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon with Team Reeve? Email TeamReeve@ChristopherReeve.org today or fill out our online athlete form!
