The perfect day for a race. A 26.2 mile race!

The morning of the ING New York City Marathon, Sunday, November 2, 2008 started off chilly, but with the sun shining and leaves turning, the five boroughs of New York were the perfect scene for Team Reeve's 55 athletes, many of whom were running a marathon for the first time.

This was our largest team so far. Many members of Team Reeve crossed the finish line motivated by the thought of someone special in their hearts -- a father who was injured skiing; a mother who recently passed away; a beloved coworker.

You can read all their stories here..

Many months of training and fundraising culminated in the big marathon weekend. It started out at the Javits Center in NYC, where runners picked up their race materials, and official bib numbers. On Saturday, the team gathered for its traditional pre-race lunch, the perfect opportunity to get everyone together, to share final words of encouragement and their nervousness.

Not one runner felt alone throughout the many months of training and fundraising. Our community of Team Reeve members lent each other support when they needed it most. The camaraderie was felt well beyond words, as they finally made their journey through the 26.2 miles.

Just a few words from some of our team members post race:

Joel Whidden
Running the marathon was undoubtedly the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but more gratifying than I could imagine beforehand. At mile 11, a number of people living with paralysis were there on the road in Brooklyn cheering for me and all of my Team Reeve teammates. It was hugely inspirational and reinforced the importance of this stroll through the five boroughs on a chilly day in November. – Joel Whidden

Greg Morel
It was my first marathon, I ran it in 4 hours, I got my motivation from all the amazing Team Reeve people cheering for me on the side of the road, I never felt tired, I just felt like running faster. – Greg Morel

Ron Leith
One of my most memorable moments was seeing you guys at mile 11 just like you said and feeling wonderful after the high fives. I hope I can call all of you now my new Family!! – Ron Leith

Jillian D'Onofrio
A very memorable day topped off with the pride of doing it for a great cause and a great foundation! Go TEAM REEVE! – Jillian D'Onofrio
