Christopher met Jane when they co-starred in the 1980 fantasy romance, "Somewhere in Time." They remained friends for over 20 years until his passing. After Christopher's accident, Jane was inspired by his extraordinary strength and will to live. His inspiration caused her to reach out to mentor young people with spinal cord injury. We are honoring Jane not only for her friendship, but also for her strong commitment to carry forward the Foundation’s vital work.

Sam Schmidt was an Indy Racing League driver before the accident that changed his life in January of 2000. He was a popular, fun-loving racer before hitting a racetrack wall at Walt Disney World Speedway at 160 miles per hour. The hit knocked him unconscious and unable to breathe and paralyzed from the neck down. After the accident, Christopher Reeve contacted Sam and provided him the inspiration to go forward.

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy. The Reeve Foundation deeply appreciates your support.
