Clothes made for sitting
Caregiver Chronicles
July 25, 2010 the Reeve Foundation celebrated the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. 194 wheelchair users rolled in formation to break the Guinness world record. In this issue: summer safety tips, clothes for the seated, learning to fly, conquering the skate park, and how to get involved in Team Reeve. Sophie Morgan visited the Foundation in the summer with Canadian designer Izzy Camilleri. They are revolutionizing clothing for who they call their “seated clientele.” Randall Spraggins is caregiver for his wife Janet. They have been together for eighteen years and dealing with multiple sclerosis for sixteen years.

Autonomic dysreflexia (AD) is a potentially life threatening condition that can be considered a medical emergency. AD requires quick and correct action. Surprisingly many medical professionals have never heard of this condition. Have you? People with spinal cord injuries are often told that they will never walk again, this is not always true. Thanks to innovative therapies and hard work, people once sentenced to life in a wheelchair are living life back on their feet. Hippotherapy uses a horse's walk to provide sensory input through movement which is variable, rhythmic and repetitive. The resultant movement responses in the client are similar to human movement patterns of the pelvis while walking. People with paralysis already have enough health problems, why would you want to cause more? Dr. Spine wants to get you to stop smoking and has a few reasons why.
