Appointments with Congress

Who are your Senators and Representative?

If you do not know, feel free to use our "Find Your Elected Official" tool. You will have two Senators and one Representative. Try to meet with all three while they are in your home district.

Contact their local offices.

Go to http://thomas.loc.gov/, click on the Senate directory and the House directory to find the phone numbers and addresses. Call the local office numbers and ask to speak to the "Scheduler".

What do you say?

You will likely get put into a voicemail. Here is a draft script:

"Hi, my name is ______, and I am a constituent of ________. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Senator (or Congressman) when he/she is here in the district. I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you."

Some offices may ask for a written request to be faxed or emailed. The same sentiment can be expressed in written form.

Things to keep in mind:

  • You may have to call back more than once. This meeting is a priority for you, but may not be for the staff person.
  • Remain polite and appreciative of their time and consideration.
  • While the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation cannot make the appointments on your behalf, they are available for questions and assistance. Contact us at Information@ChristopherReeve.org with any questions.

Finally, if you get an appointment, please let us know at Information@ChristopherReeve.org! It's visits from constituents like you that can make a real difference in how members see an issue and ultimately how they vote.
