Quality of Life Online Grant Application

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a copy of the online application to see what's required before I actually apply?
Yes.  To help in the preparation of your application, it is suggested that you print off the Word version of the online application to review what information is required.  This can be found on the website www.ChristopherReeve.org in the Quality of Life grants section, under "How to Apply/Guidelines."  You may find it helpful to save the Word version to your computer and create your answers there.  Then, you ensure that your information is saved, and when you're ready to apply online, you can copy and paste your answers into the online application where appropriate.

Can I start the online application and return to it later?
Yes.  You may start your online application, save it, and return later to continue working on it.  At the bottom of the each page of the application, you may click "Save and finish later."  THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE THAT YOU CAN SAVE YOUR APPLICATION!  A text box will appear, asking you if you are a new or returning applicant.  Please click "new" only the first time that you are creating an application.  You will be asked to enter your email and to enter a password that you create.  This process will take you out of the online application.  Shortly thereafter, you should receive an email automatically generated from the system, which confirms the password that you created and gives you a new URL to use to access your saved application.  This URL is:  https://www.GrantRequest.com/SID_458.  (PLEASE ADD QOL@ChristopherReeve.org to your acceptable email address list to avoid having your confirmation email being blocked by SPAM blocker software.)  The next time you access your application and want to "save and finish later," when the text box appears asking if you are a new or returning applicant, please click "returning applicant," and enter your email address, and then enter the password that you created.

Is there a template for the project budget?
Yes!  You must use the budget narrative template available on the Reeve Foundation website www.ChristopherReeve.org in the Quality of Life grants section.  The form is a read-only Word document that you must save as another document on your computer, complete according to the program guidelines, and upload as an attachment with your application.

Can I hit the "back" button to go back to the previous page?
No!!  Please don't do this because you will lose your connection to the online application.  Rather, make a note of the change you want to make and revise it the next time you access your application.

My organization has applied for 501(C)(3) status but we have not gotten the official notification letter from the IRS.  Can I apply for a grant?
No.  The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation cannot make grants to organizations who have not received official 501(C)(3) status.

My organization has been awarded nonprofit status by the IRS, but it is not a 501(c)(3).  Is my organization eligible to apply?
Yes, as long as official IRS notification of the nonprofit status is provided.  Although most grants are awarded to organizations with 501(C)(3) status, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation also awards Quality of Life grants to other nonprofit entities such as public parks, schools, universities, churches, synagogues and municipalities.

My organization has been awarded a the Reeve Foundation grant before and I think we already sent you a final report on our last grant.  Do we need to submit a copy of the report again with our application?
Yes!!  Final reports on the last funded projects are reviewed by the Quality of Life Committee with new applications at proposal review meetings, and applications submitted without final reports will not be reviewed.

I finished the first two sections of the online application and want to go to the 3rd section to upload attachments, but there is no "NEXT" button at the bottom of page 2.  What do I do?
Please scroll to the top of page 2 and click on "3," which brings you page 3, where you upload attachments.  The missing "NEXT" button is an anomaly of the system that we haven't figured out yet.  On some computers, the "NEXT" button does not appear, and on some the Reeve Foundation logo appears upside-down and backwards!

I am not able to upload my budget narrative template.  Will my application be automatically rejected?
No, absolutely not.  Please email the budget narrative template to QoL@ChristopherReeve.org and please clearly identify your organization name and address and the project name.

I don't have some of the required attachments in an electronic format.  What do I do?
You may mail the supporting materials to:
Donna L. Valente
Director, Quality of Life Grants
Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation
Paralysis Resource Center
636 Morris Turnpike, Suite 3A
Short Hills, NJ  07078

When mailing supporting documentation, please clearly indicate your organization's name, address and the project title, and that you have submitted an online application.

I hit "Review and Submit" but I didn't get a confirmation email.  Was my application received?
No!  You must hit "Submit" once more after you go through the "Review and Submit" process or your application will not be officially submitted.  You will get a confirmation email when your application is submitted.  Please notify the office if you do not receive the confirmation email within 48 hours of submission.
PLEASE ADD QOL@ChristopherReeve.org to your acceptable email address list to avoid having your confirmation email being blocked by SPAM blocker software.

Can I complete the Word version of the application and email it to you?
No!  Please do not do this.  All applications must be submitted online through the website www.ChristopherReeve.org

Can I make changes to my online application after it has been submitted?
No, but you can email minor edits to QoL@ChristopherReeve.org and we will make the changes for you.  Please clearly identify your organization name, address and project name.

How can I find out the status of my request?
All applicants will be notified by mail after the Board of Directors meets and authorizes grant awards.  This takes place in June for the 1st cycle and in December for the 2nd cycle.  Checks are mailed to grantees in late June and late December, respectively.

I tried to access the online application, but I got a message that the submission period is over.  When will the application be available for the next funding cycle?
There is a two-month submission period for each cycle.  The 1st cycle submission period begins January 3 and closes on March 1 at 11:59 pm EST.  This is subject to change as needed.  The 2nd Cycle 2007 opens August 21, 2007 and the deadline is October 1, 2007 at 11:59 pm EST.

Can I submit more than one request in a cycle?
No.  Please submit only one application per cycle.

My organization received a Quality of Life grant and we want to apply again.  Can I apply in the cycle immediately following our grant?
No.  As of the 1st Cycle 2007, grantees must skip two funding cycle before applying again.  For example, if your organization received a grant in the 1st Cycle 2006, you would be eligible to apply again in the 2nd Cycle 2007.  And, we must receive a final report on your grant with your application or we cannot consider a new request.

My organization is not required to submit an IRS990 because we have less than $25,000 per year in revenue.  Will my application be disqualified?
No, absolutely not.  Please send a note that states that your organization does not file the IRS990 because it generates income of less than $25,000 annually.  You may send an annual report, audited financial statements, or organizational budget in place of the IRS990.

Does the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation award Quality of Life grants to organizations based outside the United States?
Yes.

My organization is based outside of the United States, and does not have a U.S. taxpayer identification number, so what do I enter when prompted for the U.S. Tax ID number?
Non-US-based organizations should enter any ten-digit number to access the application.  You will likely receive a message that reads "Number is not found in the US Tax Database."  Hit "OK" to proceed with the application.

My organization is not based in the United States, so what documentation should I submit?
In place of IRS 501(c)(3) Letter of Determination, please attach documentation of your organization's status as a tax-exempt agency under its country's laws.  This must be a legal document issued by a governmental agency.

Should you have any questions or require assistance in the application process, please contact Donna L. Valente, Director, Quality of Life Grants, 800-539-7309, ext. 7211; dvalente@ChristopherReeve.org., or Priti Mehta, Quality of Life Grants Assistant, ext. 7125, pmehta@ChristopherReeve.org.
