The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation New England Chapter raises awareness of and support for the Reeve Foundation’s mission and programs. We have awarded $4.12 million to New England labs since our inception, and $2.8 million across the region since 1999.
Based in Boston and spearheaded by local Steering Committee members, the New England Chapter includes Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Chapter members will help advance the Reeve Foundation’s work by:
- Attending and organizing local Reeve Foundation events
- Spreading awareness about the Reeve Foundation’s research, quality of life and advocacy programs
- Supporting the Reeve Foundation through charitable donations and fundraising activities
- Volunteering to assist with local projects

Quality of Life Grants
Since 1999, the Reeve Foundation has provided Quality of Life grants to organizations nationwide that help improve opportunities, access and day-to-day quality of life for individuals living with disabilities, primarily paralysis, and their families.
This program recognizes the unique and numerous needs of these individuals and the importance of providing services and programs that enable them to participate in all areas of life. In 2006 the Foundation awarded $94,215 in grants, for a grand total of almost $1 million to 125 programs to date in the New England region. Here are just three examples:
Helping Hands
Boston, MA
$10,000
This Quality of Life grant will help to underwrite the cost for one year of the two years of training required to provide one monkey as a helper and companion to a severely disabled veteran returning from Iraq or Afghanistan with a spinal cord injury.
Solstice Films
Sherborn, MA
$10,000
This Health Promotion grant will help to support Making Connections: Living with Multiple Sclerosis for 20+ Years, a three-part television documentary film series focusing on individuals, their families and the patient/doctor relationship. The series will be broadcast nationally and distributed to hospitals, medical and nursing schools, rehabilitation centers, independent living centers, public libraries and other non-profit organizations.
World T.E.A.M. Sports
Dorchester, MA
$16,000
2007 grantee
This Health Promotion grant will support the 2007 Face of America Bike Ride to honor and include service men and women who have been severely injured (some paralyzed from the waist down) in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in a two-day, 110-mile bike ride starting in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and finishing in Washington, DC. A skilled support team of emergency medical technicians, doctors, massage therapists, hand cycling experts, and bike mechanics provide incredible support for the participants. The ride inspires a visual message to all the current patients there about the power of rehabilitation and the will to Go Forward.
