근위 축성 측색 경화증의 연구

근위 측성 측색 경화증 연구: ALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis:근위 측성측색 경화증; 루게릭 병)는 세포 현상의 지속 현상으로서 뉴론(아포토시스라고 불린다)의 소멸을 야기시킨다. 이의 연구는 과잉의 글루타민산염( 신경 신호 전들에 필요한 물질)과 불완전한 미토콘드리아 (세포의 한부분으로서 에너지를 공급) 및 바이러스의 가능적인 역할을 포함한 몇 개의 단서에 맞추어 이루어지고 있다. 다음은 ALS 치료를 위한 연구과정의 사례이다

예를 들자면, 약이 ALS환자에게 신체 약화의 전진을 늦추는지 알아보기위해 인슐린 같은 성장 요인-1(IGF-1또는 마이오트로핀)의 임상 시험이 2003년에 시작되었다. IGF-1은 신경계의 정상발육에 필수적이고 동물의 운동뉴론을 보호한다고 나타난다. 이는 세포의 소멸 진로를 막고 근육의 재신경분포와 축색돌기 성장 및 재생을 촉진한다고 믿어지고 있다.

탯줄 혈액/줄기 세포: 동물 실험에 의하면 정맥 내의 탯줄 혈액 및 줄기 세포 의 임상적으로 작용하고 실재로 어떤 클리닉에서는 ALS 환자들에게 이 세포들이 공급되고 있다. 명확한 장기간 안전도 테스트 또는 유익한 결과는 보고되지 않았다. ALS협회에게 몇몇이 세포 주입 후 개선된 체력과 기능을 있었다고 알려왔다. 더 자세한 연구를 위한 문은 열려있다.
