보험과 메디케어

보통 본인이나 배우자가 최소 10년동안 메디케어가 포함된 직장 근무를 하였고 현재 65세 이상의 미국 시민 또는 영주권자이면 메디케어의 혜택권이 주어진다. 나이가 어리더라도 장애 또는 영구적 신부전증의 투석 또는 이식 환자이면 혜택이 주어진다.

본인이 65세 이상이고 이미 사회보장제나 철도 퇴직 위원회의 연금 혜택을 받고 있거나 배우자가 메디케어 포함이된 정부기관의 피고용자였을 경우 보험료 지불 없이Part A의 혜택을 받을 수 있다.

본인이 65세 이하이면 적어도 24개월동안 사회보장제나 철도 퇴직 위원회의 연금 혜택을 받았다면 보험료 지불 없이 Part A(병원 보험)의 혜택을 받을 수 있다. 거의 모든 사람들이 65세때 자동적으로 Part A혜택을 받는다

Part B (의료 보험)은 선택 사항이다. 이는 의사비용, 서비스, 외원진래나 작업치료 또는 물리치료나 가정 건강 간호 서비스와 같이Part A가 포함하지 않는 다른 의료 서비스의 비용을 부담하는데 도움이 된다. Part B는 이러한 서비스나 보급품이 의학적으로 필요할 때만 혜택이 제공된다.

2005년 기준으로Part B의 월 보험료는$78.20 였다. 어떤 경우 65세가 되기전 Part B를 선택하지 않았으면 이보다 더 높기도 하다. 특수한 경우를 제외하곤, Part B를 선택가능 한 시기 후 하지않으면 그 때 후 매 12월 마다 10%의 보험료가 추가된다.

65세 생일 3개월 이전에 시작되는 7개월간의 기간동안 Plan B를 신청할수 있다. 이를 선택하면 보통 보험료는 사회보장제, 공무원 퇴직 또는 철도 퇴직 연금에서 공제된다. 메디케어는 매 3개월 마다 내역서를 보낸다.

메디케어 Part A 또는Part B의 신청 가능 여부에 질문이 있거나 메디케어 신청을 하고자 하면 사회 보장제 국에 전화 문의를 한다. 무료 번호는1-800-772-1213이다. 언어 또는 청각 장애인들을 위한 TTY-TDD 번호는1-800-325-0778이다. 무보험료 Part A에 가입을 못할경우 Part A와 Part B 유료 가입하기 위한 정보를 얻을 수 있다.
