Job Title: Part-Time - Sr. Writer
Job Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

This candidate will serve as the senior writer for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s external and internal communications to develop a storyline for the Reeve Foundation’s research & development strategies, quality of life initiatives, advocacy and community outreach. This person’s work will span all departments and will produce thought leadership pieces in addition to publications such as educational toolkits, blogs, web features, marketing and branding materials, presentations, brochures, annual reports, op-eds as well as social media copy, internal communications and correspondence on behalf of the Executive Leadership Team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling written materials that effectively communicate the Reeve Foundation’s priorities to a diverse group of target audiences, including donors, community members and Congressional champions.
  • Assume the role of the journalist, reporting on what is happening within the paralysis community and creating a drumbeat of stories on how to get involved with the Reeve Foundation and how to be an advocate.
  • Edit colleagues’ blogs, press releases and other correspondence
  • Overseeing mailings and expense report
  • Share stories of success to highlight programs and services offered by the Reeve Foundation.
  • Work closely with all departments to form a cohesive voice for the Reeve Foundation content properties.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Individual must be able to communicate in a persuasive and compelling manner in a variety of formats
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent creative and/or journalistic writing skills, with creative approach to communications
  • Strong research, editing and analytical skills
  • Exceptional ability to turn complex information into easy to understand, compelling narratives
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Dynamic self-starter; highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision • Ability to perform as part of a team under pressure
  • Dependable, flexible, highly articulate and discreet
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations
  • Light travel will be required to attend conferences and other industry events

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing or related field from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a writer with strong editing skills
  • Nonprofit experience is preferred.
