"A Walk to Believe" to commemorate the five-year anniversary of Eric LeGrand's spinal cord injury

Short Hills, NJ – (March 16, 2015) On Sunday, June 7, 2015, A Walk to Believe -- One Step Closer with Team LeGrand will take place at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, NJ.

The 5th annual 5K event signifies a major milestone in Eric LeGrand's journey -- nearly five years since he sustained a spinal cord injury as a football player for Rutgers University. To commemorate his journey, LeGrand is rallying supporters to raise funds for his personal and philanthropic mission -- cures for spinal cord injury.

A Walk to Believe, benefiting Team LeGrand of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, Eric LeGrand Believe Fund, and Rutgers University Spinal Cord Injury Project, highlights the importance of funding research and quality of life initiatives for the nearly six million Americans living with paralysis.

This year, the annual family-friendly walk will also feature a competitive 5K race to include runners of all ages. Additionally, event organizers will reach out to schools within the neighboring area, inviting students and parents to create school teams with the goal of fostering a friendly competition across districts.

"It's said that after the first year of one's injury, support starts to wane. I am incredibly fortunate that my community, family and friends have done the opposite. They are with me, day in and day out, encouraging me to stay focused on behalf of the millions living with paralysis," says Eric LeGrand, co-founder of Team LeGrand. "Heading into the fifth year of my injury, I never wonder ‘what if' thanks to the support of the Team LeGrand community. But we will not rest until we reach the end zone -- cures for spinal cord injury -- for me and every other person living with spinal cord injury."
